The challenge was to convert an empty 2000sf apartment, located in the heart of SoHo, into a high-end stimulating living space for a single young tech entrepreneur. The project followed the idea of making multiple dwelling situations able to co-exist in a very small portion of the total, in order to give solution to every practical situation and still leave a big volume of light and quietness.
The only door that exists is the one at the bathroom, the rest of the spaces are configured from the different faces of a central cube. The idea of a mezzanine was perfect for this purpose and allowed the design of a very flat floor suspended over the place. The result was a very interesting collection of corners that led the user into a continuum organization of his home.
The apartment completes itself with a meticulous lighting design that, connected to a wireless system, it can be managed remotely from the owner's smartphone, as well as the security system, the sound system and the cooling/heating units.
The usage of metallic frames as principal structure gave the chance to fill with reclaimed wood the floors and the small details of closets and built furniture, making a nice matching with the original beams, which received a renewing treatment.
