Our long-time client Brookstone came to Bergmeyer for help in developing the fifth version of their prototype, which would find its home in the new Westfield expansion of Terminal One at the Los Angeles International Airport. Unique to the typical Brookstone look, the new prototype caters to a more world-class shopping environment, while also preserving the high-tech and innovative spirit of the brand itself.
To create a one-of-a-kind retail experience, lighting and technology play a huge part in drawing attention to focal areas, complimented by a refined color pallet to soften the background. Dancing vertical pendants above highlight the transparent storefront, as bands of recessed light run down and draw the eye into the space.
Merchandising elements were developed on a completely custom basis to contradict the typical Brookstone experience encouraging the user to experiment with products. Storage is concealed behind the perimeter display, showcasing color block accents, graphics and arrays of warm wood shelving. This also maximized the floor space for freestanding displays, neutrally-colored to help product stand out while keeping a minimalist approach.
Aside from highly strict seismic requirements, which added another layer of difficulty to the project’s design process, a cohesive and clean look was achieved for the modern face of Brookstone. The new Brookstone prototype design, as well as its travel-focused brand Carry On, have been implemented in the following cities:
Denver
Hong Kong
Las Vegas
Newark
Portland
San Antonio
Salt Lake City
