This century-old townhouse needed a modern overhaul for a young family with two kids (and a lovable rescue dog). We opened up the ground floor, bringing light and comfortable circulation through the living spaces. Across from the kitchen, we created a family “nerve center”: a spot conveniently located between the entrance and the kitchen where a busy family can stay organized, dropping keys or checking the calendar. With one parent who is a professional chef, dinner is always amazing—and a functional kitchen layout is a must. Upstairs we enlarged the master bedroom and added a bathroom where there was once a small office. The kid's bedrooms are entered through a shared playroom, encouraging joint play as well as independence.
