Francis Cauffman provided architecture, planning, interior design, and medical equipment planning services for this 12-story mixed-use Health Center in Downtown Brooklyn for the New York Hotel Trades Council and Hotel Association of New York City, Inc., Health Benefits Fund, Health Center, Inc. (HC). The 65,000 SF, 5-floor Health Center component will focus equally on wellness and treatment of illness. It will incorporate state-of-the-art technology and enforce a collaborative, team-based approach to care. To emphasize patient-centered care as the top priority, the health center will not have physician’s offices or waiting rooms; the goal is that 85% of patients will be treated in less than an hour including receiving their prescriptions at the onsite pharmacy. Multifunction spaces will host healthy living workshops and lifestyle classes. Additional building features include retail and office space, a restaurant, and an outdoor public space connecting to the neighborhood’s existing open space network. The south façade will contain a mural designed by a local artist. The team is targeting a LEED Silver certification.
