With partnerships from City College of New York, Onforce Solar company, and JPDA studio, XMANIFOLD was involved in converting of an industrial warehouse and machine shop in Bronx into a high-tech, co-working office space (incubator) for future startups in New York.
Utilizing the existing site’s unique ‘4’ shape contour, the design will place private offices and conference rooms at the perimeter, while situating all shared desks around the central staircase and lounge. The hybrid staircase leads up to the rooftop penthouse and outdoor leisure space and landscape. Another important feature of this project is the implementation of the “European Passive House”. Through careful engineering of the interior and exterior insulation and openings, the passive implementation will dramatically increase the heating and cooling efficiencies and decrease energy consumption. In addition, the roof will also be retrofitted with PV cells and battery, further developing the project towards sustainable and resource conscious building.
