The client sought to make a nearly unusable rear yard into a more functional, enjoyable landscape. The design of the yard sought to create discrete spaces that could comfortably accommodate multiple groups of people simultaneously. A series of board-formed concrete retaining walls define a series of terraced levels, each with their own patio or deck. In addition, a roof deck is created above the existing 3-unit residence to take advantage of sweeping views that include the Golden Gate Bridge.
