Bridges @ 11th Avenue is designed to provide an innovative model of affordable workforce housing for employees of Seattle Children's Hospital and the University of Washington and their families. All edges of the three buildings were designed to support and enliven the pedestrian environment at street and alley level with on-grade housing, live-work space, community uses, retail and a bike club. To provide connectivity and build community among the residents, the circulation path throughout all three buildings was designed to encourage interaction between residents and with the outdoors. A green rooftop sky trail connects the three buildings via connector bridge art elements, a nod to Seattle's physical linkages across bodies of water. In alignment with Seattle Children's and the University of Washington's values, the design of Bridges @ 11th Avenue is specifically oriented to support opportunities for residents to walk, bike or use public transportation.
