IND bridge proposal for Venlo does not create an iconic shape but intends to create a formal pattern that blends more easily with the rhythm of the city skyline behind it and also reflect on the proximity of the water.
A bridge can become an autonomous element that connects two points without considering the difference that lies between them. In the case of Venlo we are faced with a situation which could be approach differently: the bridge we believe will not perform only as connector of two points but it will also serve as mediator between the city and the new park proposed on the other side of the bank. In this sense the bridge could be read as an invitation to the citizens to extend their recreational activities to the other side of the water or as an extension of the park to the city.
We propose to have a bridge that is both comfortable and inviting. This is intended to be synchrony with its structural performance. Therefore the geometry of the bridge is the result of the merging of a flat line with two symmetrical curvilinear profiles at each side. It starts with a semi close space that is followed by openings that are follow by a more close space and the invert sequence after.
