The design of the King Street Brickworks Design Studio began as a collaboration between the historic character of the heritage listed building and the contemporary style of Brickwork’s building products to create a unique bespoke retail showroom that doubles as a function space.
Existing features of the building were not only preserved but importance was placed on highlighting them to enhance the space. The retention of the exposed original brickwork internally was to provide a complimentary ‘canvas’ to the modern products showcased by Brickwork’s range of companies. Additionally the existing 100 year old Jarrah floorboards were carefully restored to celebrate the capability of raw construction materials.
An internal brick ‘Jali’ feature wall with integrated audio-visual components was incorporated to provide a dramatic backdrop within the multipurpose space, demonstrating the creative applications possible with Brickworks products. Mobile joinery items, custom drawers and a rotating display item create an abundance of unique usage opportunities, enhancing the spaces ability to cater to the array of Brickworks’ products. These items in addition to customisable timber product tables were incorporated into the design to encourage customer interaction with the products and representatives - transforming their experience from a detached viewing to an engaged selection process.
