The 2005 Christmas concept inspired the alternating facade design. The
Breuninger Christmas key visual was presented facing outwards on a 700
m2 textile banner. On the sides facing Marktstrasse and Münzstrasse, a
raised steel pipe frame is mounted onto the original wooden facade,
which has begun to show its age, above the canopy at a height of
approximately five metres. A rail system is mounted onto the lightweight
construction and is designed to guide the banner along the 700 m2
surface and ensure clear lines and a striking 90-degree corner. The taut
banner is integrated seamlessly into the facade, which is set back. The
space between the banner and the facade emphasises the
three-dimensional character and is positioned harmoniously as a central
feature of the building.
The appearance of the Breuninger facade has been altered several times over the years by replacing the suspended textile facade.
