Breuninger Employees Terrace

DIA – Dittel Architekten were commissioned to redesign the employees terrace of Breuninger´s flagship store in Stuttgart.
By the enlargement of the terrace up to 360 sqm (previously 210 sqm),
the entire area around the factory canteen can be used by now to linger
and relax. There is an abounding amount of space to spend one´s
recreation time in a comfortable atmosphere. Primarily the concept
impresses by its different alternatives to linger. There is the
possibility to settle down on one of the generous designed
lounge-islands, at one of the three bars with their view of the city and
the market place, or on one of the modern designed concrete benches.
Along the terrace´s height offset, the circumstances were used in the
best possible way: a wooden bench was integrated to create space for up
to 40 people along a length of 12 meters.
The parasols that were designed especially for Breuninger offer shelter
from the sun. With their asymmetrical arrangement within the concrete
tables, they are one of the highlights and attract attention. By the
selective application of plants, the particular areas are emphasized, as
well as a comfortable and casual ambiance is created.
The appearance of the terrace is characterized by the combination of
different materials: timber, white concrete and white surfaces of metal
create a modern and timeless look.
