Stade Municipal de Kintélé is a 60,000-seat athletics and field sports stadium designed to serve initially as the main venue for the 2015 African Games. It forms the heart, or centrepiece, of a masterplan of buildings, including a 10,000-seat indoor arena, a 2000-seat aquatics centre, ancillary facilities and various outdoor venues.
The client brief called for the creation of a sports centre that could be recognised globally for its world-class design, ecological features and high standard of facilities. It was important the building improve the overall impression and image of Brazzaville as a city and the Republic of the Congo as a country. It must be an enduring facility that could support and help develop the country’s traditional culture, a place where sport and leisure activities could interact to enrich the experience of the city’s inhabitants.
