The concept for the project is to frame the horizon with an open pavilion approach. The horizon line is bent as you move up the building in section. Public and communal spaces are placed on the main level evocative of mid-century Brazilian architecture with shaded concrete overhang. Private spaces such as studies and bedrooms are placed on the upper floors. This project is off the grid, so it produces its own power into a solar array as well as achieves natural cooling with an air chimney effect in the stair tower. Rainwater is harvested and recycled and it becomes a strong design element as it reflects light into the ceilings and extends the floor plane into the horizon.
