Green design : Very Good BREEAM certification
The project consists of the restructuring and extension of the tertiary property complex of «Brädstapeln», the flagship building of the city of Stockholm (Sweden). It is part of an urban policy aimed at authorizing the densification of the centre of Stockholm and will be the first of its kind which allows the elevation, with a contemporary architecture, of a remarkable building characteristic of the so-called «brutalist» architecture of the years 1960-1970 in Stockholm.
Here, the objective is to revalue this real estate heritage: for both the city and the two investors, it is about restructuring, but also to expand, open, raise, wake up this block to make it an innovative workplace for users, an attractive place for residents
and a new emblem for the city.
The idea was to create an elevation that is the roof that was missing until then. It is formed of a series of diamond-shaped volumes, juxtaposed with each other in a vast upward movement which, from south
to north, rises and becomes more and more visible as it moves away. The extension of the building consists of the creation of an elevation of 2 levels to the north, and 4 to the south. Thus, between the existing and
the elevation slips a breathing space, consisting of a garden belvedere on the landscape. In addition to this elevation, the operation consists of upgrading
commercial spaces based on the ground floor and basement.
