IDPL Project Office – A Dynamic Interpretation of Identity
When entrusted with the design of Irugur-Devangonthi Pipeline (IDPL) Project office of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), India’s leader in the energy sector – the directive was clear: move beyond the signature blue and yellow colors of the brand. Instead, the design sought to embody the company’s philosophy, values, and leadership vision through a refined spatial narrative.
At the heart of our design inspiration was BPCL’s iconic logo—the Golden Drops of Oil—which represents a continuous, cyclical movement, symbolizing the company’s enduring dynamism. The logo itself, which plays with the interplay of light and dark in rotational symmetry, was integral in influencing the design of the office spaces.
For the Project Manager's office, we interlaced the logo’s fluid form into an asymmetrical pattern, reflecting a sense of constant motion and energy. A palette of red and gold laminates reinforced this dynamism. In contrast, the Project Leader's office embraced a more formal and structured approach with a fully symmetrical interpretation of the logo, representing balance and order. The ceiling design in both offices mirrored this interplay between asymmetry and symmetry in Project Manager and Project Leader Offices respectively, contributing to the overall aesthetic while subtly defining the transition from the waiting lounge to the executive desk area.
The site and contract engineers' workspace was shaped by the pre-ordered modular furniture. To integrate this into the overall design narrative, we subtly referenced the Yin and Yang concept, with a bold curve pattern forming the basis for the partition designs. This balance between solid and glass elements in the partitions added visual interest and harmony to the workspaces while maintaining an open, collaborative atmosphere.
The challenge wasn’t just in creating beautiful spaces—it was in telling a story through design. A story of BPCL’s legacy, its commitment to progress, and the dynamic, balanced environment in which its people thrive. Every design decision was made with that in mind, ensuring that the office not only serves as a workspace but as an embodiment of the values that define BPCL.
