Schoeller Allibert is a manufacturer of reusable plastic pallets and crates, an innovative product line which aids in improving the sustainability of global logistics. The state of the art production plant in Beringen (BE), was the brainchild of Blue Oceans XL, an investor in innovative industry. The campus incorporates the dual offices of Schoeller Allibert and BOXL with a production warehouse and exterior storage lot.
The design seeks to create a uniform factory aesthetic throughout, while also reflecting the duality of the two respective businesses. The façade of the Schoeller Allibert office is glazed and transparent. Above the glazing, a monolithic concrete mass hovers overhead. The concrete is black, accentuating the plastic dynamic of the form. Behind the closed concrete façade on the second floor, the offices of BOXL open up to an interior courtyard carved out between the office volume and the warehouse volume, and made strikingly visible through a completely glazed rear façade. The result is a unique building that unites art and functionality, inspired by the liquid plasticity of polyethylene during the production process and expressed through the curvilinear architecture.
