The actual building is a very interesting configuration of spaces (former housing) and the idea was to re-structure its interior with a concrete skin that would allow to leave as much as possible free column areas where the original façade can be seen and at the same time reinforce the whole structure.
Located within the heart of the peninsula (Rovinj), two houses embody the exclusivity of luxury accommodation: the VILLA ORATORIO boutique hotel has it all in the shape of a petite, four-level building with a total of 11 rooms. Eventually, the project could also become a 7-spacious-apartments
building and even a luxury villa.
It has to be remarked that the original building counts from the 17th century which offers that extra
traditional condiment. The main layout of the hotel is: On the ground floor the lobby, reception, restaurant-bar, fitness, toilets and services; first, second and third floors with rooms and at the top a belvedere. The whole building has a surface of 285 m2 connected by the staircase. Although the exteriors remain true to their 17th century design, a couple of few elements were added to give a subtle sign that something’s happening inside. The interior design on the other hand was thought to be a contrast to the exterior serenity and sober image of the stone façade.
The lobby is mainly the reception desk made of glossy wooded panels in white pearl finishing and the only furniture is a decorative love-seat in dark grey tones. Some of the new walls added have got a finishing of flower patterned (kind of baroque) glossy screen also in white pearl color which contrast with the dark wooden floor.
The fitness follows the same design (which is the signature for the whole hotel) just contrasting with few decorative elements such as a floor-to-ceiling image on one of the walls. The restaurant-bar is configured with a few decorative elements, leaving the walls with the original stone and the furniture in the same dark grey color. All the lightning is indirect so the atmosphere is better controlled and becomes more romantic and intimate. Each room is individually decorated but of course keeping the main design art: dark wood floors, original stone walls and decorative furnishing in contrasting colors. The bathrooms are totally in mosaic tilling with some details in concrete and wooden floors. The staircase’s design was thought as a thin wooden slab that folds itself upwards reaching the belvedere. The wall has a 12 meter tall image of a painting related to the location and hotel story.
Finally, the belvedere becomes an escape to enjoy the views from the rooftop and to simply relax.
All in all, each corner of the interior design has its own theme so to provoke a special and unique understanding of the whole space. Just like Wander said: “A hotel should offer experience, it should be exciting and surprising with a strong visual rationale that elicits a strong emotional response”.
