Boundary Breakers is a proposal for a permanent public artwork to be located on a roundabout. The artwork was designed for Portlaoise in Ireland, the town where the first Irish air plane was built and flown.
NEON wanted to celebrate the spirit of innovation present in the town by reinventing a common urban element, presenting it in a way previously unimaginable- the motorway barrier.
The piece uses 100 repeating elements each formed of readily available barrier components to create a spectrum of colour. As one drives around the artwork the roundabout appears to change colour.
