The Botanica Sales Gallery is a showroom and sales office for the Hythe by Botanica project, located within Botanica Grand Avenue in Choeng Thale Subdistrict, Thalang District, Phuket, Thailand. It was conceived as more than a conventional sales office, serving instead as a representation of Botanica Luxury Villas’ vision for the future. Guided by the concept of functional flexibility, the interior was designed as a large open-plan space capable of accommodating a variety of activities and adapting to changing needs over time. Today, the building also serves as a venue for the Thailand Biennale 2025 art exhibition, open to the public free of charge, reflecting its role as a contemporary public and cultural space.
The architectural concept draws inspiration from the simplicity and tranquility of Zen philosophy, combined with contrasting geometric forms to create a balance between softness and solidity. The ground floor is designed as a semicircular volume, creating a welcoming approach and naturally guiding visitors into the building. This form also symbolizes continuity and completeness, in line with Zen principles. In contrast, the upper floor adopts a rectilinear form that conveys stability, clarity, and modernity. Together, these two forms create a harmonious dialogue between contrasting architectural masses.
The exterior envelope of the upper floor is clad in reflective glass curtain walls, designed to mirror the surrounding environment, including the sky, trees, and shifting daylight throughout the day and across seasons. As a result, the building presents an ever-changing appearance, becoming part of the landscape rather than an isolated object within it. Beyond its aesthetic qualities, the glazing also contributes to energy performance. Low-E glass was selected to reduce heat transfer and block UV radiation, helping maintain comfortable indoor temperatures while reducing the load on the air-conditioning system.
At the lower level, the building utilizes cast-in-place exposed concrete walls textured by timber formwork patterns. This material expression reflects natural beauty and understated simplicity, aligning with the Zen-inspired concept. The concrete base provides a strong and grounded foundation that supports the lighter and more transparent upper volume, creating a deliberate contrast in materiality that reinforces the overall design narrative. The curved geometry of the wall also helps define spatial enclosure, create a clear sequence of arrival, and gently draw visitors inward.
In terms of sustainability, the project integrates environmentally conscious materials together with a solar cell system to support clean energy use and respond to future-oriented design trends that prioritize environmental responsibility.
With a construction period of only five months, the project employed a steel structural system using cellular beams combined with precast concrete floor slabs to enhance speed and efficiency during construction. Today, the Botanica Sales Gallery has become a new landmark in Phuket, embodying luxury, contemporary design, and harmony with nature. It also demonstrates an architectural direction that successfully addresses experience, functionality, and long-term sustainability.
