From the very first moment of the design process for the booth of a manufacturer of lighting fixtures, who was supposed to exhibit his products at the International Fair «Light + Building 2018» in Frankfurt, we were confronted with following dominant challenge:
How can we focus on the intangible elements of the space, such as the ease of visitor circulation and the appropriate lighting ambience without neglecting the unintrusive presentation of relevant products by creating an expressive landscape within the narrow limits of an unambitious budget?
Low cost cardboard honeycomb panels turned out to be the most reasonable choice for the creation of three-dimensional sculptural structures in response to the above challenge.
The elaborated layout of these structures organizes the basic functions of the booth such as the reception, the product exhibition and the communication with the visitors.
These sculptural structures unfold in the sequence of proliferating elements that constitute a continuous background for the fluent play of light and shadow. Light is emmitted from the inner core of the structures by well hidden light sources, highlighting the perforated texture of the modules. Lateral colored light from above imparts the plasticity of the delicately structured walls.
The three-dimensional structures are assembled from honeycomb cardboard panel modules, which are inserted into each other. The basic element is a „box“, open on both sides, which is built from a folded honeycomb panel. This features a number of slots in order to be connected to consecutive modules. The elements are assembled in rows. The modules are sticked together, creating a stalwart sculptural entity.
