In her interview Irene mentions that she envisions the space
as a chandelier. A chandelier is an installation of numerous shiny small
elements that are organized into a defined three dimensional form. That idea is
the concept for our installation. In our design we would also like to
incorporate the delicate crisp feminine quality of jewelry.
The installation is hung from a metal grid at one foot below
the ceiling. It consists of numerous (about 5000) 7” diameter clear glass balls
attached to the metal grid by transparent plastic threads. The glass balls are
hung with equal horizontal distances from one another- 4”- but different
vertical ones. The vertical distances change gradually and with the rows of the
hung glass balls a dramatically wavy glittering layer above the space gets
formed. The form reaches the ground at some points and its high and low point
areas tailor the space for the items in the program, i.e. meeting areas, entry,
etc.
Existing light fixtures will be used and located above the
installation. The layer of the glass balls distract the direct light into the
space and make the whole layer of the balls shine into the space. The curvy
quality of the installation represents the feminine characteristic of the environment
and the glow and spark represent the jewelry
