Bocceria is a temporary urban installation created for the event ZOOincittà – urban installations in the historic center of Cuneo, a public art exhibition organized by the cultural association Art.ur. The intervention introduces a bocce court as an ephemeral spatial device, designed to be quickly assembled and dismantled without permanently altering the public ground.
The structure is entirely made of raw wooden planks assembled without fasteners, forming a continuous perimeter frame laid directly on the ground. The material, deliberately humble, inexpensive, and easily sourced, constitutes an identifying element of the project, consistent with its temporary and essential nature.
The court, approximately 16.5 meters long and 4 meters wide, contains a sand filling resting on the existing street surface and retained by the wooden edge. This solution creates a playing surface suitable for bocce without the need for foundations, platforms, or additional infrastructure.
The wooden edge serves a dual purpose: on one hand, it contains the sand; on the other, it is sized as a continuous seating area, providing space accessible to players, spectators, and passersby, thus extending the use of the installation beyond the game itself.
The work includes two opposing entrances along the long sides, created with light ramps that connect the edge to the street level. These access points ensure full accessibility, allowing even people with reduced mobility to enter and comfortably stay within the playing area.
Thanks to the entirely dry assembly, the exclusive use of simple materials, and the total absence of fixed elements, the intervention is completely reversible: at the end of the event, Bocceria can be dismantled without leaving any permanent traces.
