A. Conditions
First, the project is
located near skyscrapper Daewoo, the 4th and middle most Metro stop.
However, after examining the actual state of
this location and the given route map, we find out that if we chose the
position close to Daewoo building to be the station, there would be some kinds
of problems:
_ The area is limited as
Daewoo building has consumed almost of the necessary free space.
_ It would be unconvenient
for the traffic flow, due to inappropriate moving directions which can cause
traffic jam at rush hours.
_ It would spoil the
surroundings of Daewoo building and the whole street’s ambiance.
_ The structure’ s
aesthetics is ruined by other near-by constructions.
Therefore, we decide to locate the building
site in the territory opposite to Daewoo building, at the intersection of Kim Ma street and Lieu Giai street.
This site suggests some potential capabilities:
_ A clear and spacious
environment, uninvaded by other sturctures.
_ A supposedly short-term
public infrastructure which is capable of land confiscation to use for other
desirable purposes.
_ Links to other positions can
easily be made through means of transportation.
_ It is suitable with the
surroundings, optically compatible with Daewoo - essential building of the Kim
Ma Lieu Giai region.
B. Idea and proposal
Idea.
A plan for a metro station at the street's
corner, "An urban corner" brings about a combination of
transportative and aesthetic benfits. With
a structure formed by zigzags, the constructions’s shape is figured out at the
bends and by the height difference. The designers emphasize on the contrast
with nearby Vietnam-metropolitan oriented structures which often lack
innovations. The modern quality of the metro station, instead of being
incompatiable with itssurroundings, will hamornize with Daewoo and its
environment, thus creating a connected, wholesome entity.
Proposal.
The construction consists of the following
key elements:
_ The station’s plaza including reception,
security office…
_ A bridge for pedestrians
from the plaza to the opposite, heading towards Daewoo at the intersection of
Dao Tan-Lieu Giai.
_ A tunnel for pedesrians
through the crossroads towards the remainder of Kim Ma street.
_ Underground parking lot
and waiting benches.
These elements provide passengers with a lot
of new amenities in using public capital at Lieu Giai – Kim Ma crossroad.
The functional division of space as well as
the traffic arrangement are set based on the entrance into the station and the in-out
movement of passengers. Main construction materials include concrete, steel,
glass which create stability. The desired height difference which makes new
optical impression on users will influence their perception of the
construction.
The consideration of sunlight at different
day times as well as materials’ color, especially striking effect of steel on a
concrete background, will soften the coarse manner of concrete. Thus, the
structure not only maintains its stability but also demonstrates other
decoration factors.
The station’s long – short feature integrates
well with Daewoo’s soaring size. The plan is molded around the bench, stirring an appear - disappear effect for the
construction.
Conclusion: “ An urban
corner” is sketched with the hope of
bringing a grace to urban atmosphere, by using modern materials and updated visualization
strategy but still conserving the location’s inherent values. It expresses the
designers’ point of view in constructing Metro station.
