As project architect, zpd+a developed a unified architectural statement to fulfill the client's aesthetic aspirations. Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) desired a building that would be prominent in its natural surroundings, contemporary in style, yet Southwest in character. HCSC also required a workplace environment that was healthy, energy efficient, and that would provide inviting, light-filled spaces. Inspired by the prevailing Albuquerque winds and the breathtaking views of the nearby Sandia Mountains, zpd+a developed a series of seamless transitions between public spaces in the building and the natural beauty of the neighboring landscape. zpd+a created design solutions that not only complement the high desert palette, but also provide employees with a safe, healthy and inviting work environment. The freestanding, zinc-paneled, single-story employee lounge faces an interior, landscaped courtyard and the mountains to the east.
