TRO Jung|Brannen was selected to design a new, 3,260 square foot, high end Bliss Spa within the W Boston Hotel and Residences. The client wanted to create a visually exciting experience in the public area combined with a serene and relaxing environment in the treatment rooms, while maintaining international brand consistency with an individualized Boston identity. Programmatically, the spa needed to allow for a separate retail experience on the first floor while still maintaining a unified feel with the second floor spa level. The client also wanted to provide a playful, unexpected spa experience.
The concept for this urban spa was to soothe the senses by creating a year round summer garden as an escape for Bostonians from the harsh winters – a garden oasis of Bliss. This theme is expressed through playful interpretations including swings that are overgrown with foliage where product is displayed, light-hearted wallpaper in the lounges that represent the flowers in a garden, and mobiles in the manicure/pedicure area that suggest clouds. This project received the IIDA New England Design Award for “Best Retail/Hospitality Design”
