Returning from a work assignment in Germany, the Blessings bought a new prefab house and wanted to add a solarium like those they saw overseas, so they could enjoy year-round views of their property. PB+A designed a two-level greenhouse that adds to a second floor “spare room” a glass dormer that mirrors the room’s traditional dormer, in front. The glass dormer opens onto a terrace on the roof of the greenhouse. The basement was finished with a new home theater, exercise area, kitchenette, wine cellar, bathroom, billiard room, and home office. The home theater features a circular wall finished in fabric panels, for acoustics, and a fireplace at one side. A glass door and a stair give the basement direct access to the solarium and bring natural light down into the basement. (Structural Engineer: Gilsanz Murray Steficek.
