BLANKSPACES is a modern, office hotel where entrepreneurs and freelancers collaborate. Workspaces are available by the hour, day, month, and year. As the largest coworking facility in SoCal, and one of the most modern in the world, its environment raises the bar for what coworking can be.The former attic space above a retail shop was transformed into an office. Since few windows were available, all offices faced back into the space via large glass walls to view the hub of activity among the open cubicles and desks. Existing skylights that punctuated across most of the roof helped punctuate what would otherwise be "just" fluorescents. While brokers claimed how easy it would be to blanket the space with generic acoustic ceiling tiles, I instead embraced the beautiful raw-ness of the wood bow-truss roof to balance against the systems furniture, which the furniture would have seemed cold, corporate by itself.Finally, the open desks are foldable and movable to reconfigure that central area to transform the lounge into an event space for parties, mixers, and larger lectures.
