Colberg Architecture, a leading Brooklyn-based architect and design firm, partnered with Blank Street, a small-format coffee startup, to design one of its early brick-and-mortar locations at 178 Court Street in the Cobble Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY.
Colberg Architecture lead the architecture and design of the new retail location, concept through construction to completion. Launched in August 2020 by Vinay Menda and Issam Freiha, Blank Street’s strategy focuses on micro footprint locations: a mix of mobile street carts and brick-and-mortar spaces about the quarter of the size of an average café. Colberg Architecture worked with Blank Street to design their first retail location in Cobble Hill, one of Brooklyn’s most popular neighborhoods to live and work.

About Blank Street
Founded in Williamsburg by immigrants-turned-New Yorkers, Issam Freiha and Vinay Menda, Blank Street is a small-format specialty coffee company that passionately believes in making local commerce more tech-forward, convenient, and sustainable. Blank Street is shaking up the traditional coffee shop experience by seeking underutilized real estate to operate micro-retail shops and zero-emissions coffee carts, the first of which they installed in August 2020 at the iconic Wythe Diner. Currently, Blank Street operates 18 locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan, with many more to roll out in the coming weeks. The menu offers a daily selection of coffee and tea drinks and sweet and savory bites from celebrated local brands such as Parlor Coffee, King David Tacos, Pain D’Avignon, and King Street Baking Co. By doing more with less – less waste, less energy, and less square footage – Blank Street is able to invest in what matters most: offering the highest quality products at the lowest prices; providing higher wages for their team of baristas; operating with state-of-the-art coffee technology and an order-ahead mobile app; and designing the business to operate as lightly upon the earth as possible, from their carts to their cups.
