“Bio YOU”
The “Bio YOU" project was initiated to enhance the visual identity and branding perspective of 'Bio Marine,' an Iranian brand specializing in cosmetic and personal care products. Marz Design and architecture has been tasked with strengthening the brand's message. In collaboration with the client during consulting sessions, we developed the idea of reimagining the brand’s educational spaces and workshops to further enhance the brand identity of Bio Marine.
The interplay between visual identity design and the design of educational space furnishings formed the focus of this project for Marz Design and Architecture, with the aim of creating continuity and integration between the two. As part of this process, we proposed defining the brand as 'Bio YOU' for the educational spaces.
The choice of the word 'You' emphasizes the unique importance of each individual. The 'Bio YOU ' logo places special emphasis on the design and typeface of the letter 'Y,' which serves as a metaphor for the 'form and state of the body' while also conveying notions of liberation and freedom.
Given the significance of the letter 'Y' in the brand's identity and logo, it serves as a 'family piece generator' element with its own distinct shape and geometry. This collection, centered around 'Y,' represents a family of furniture that showcases various phenotypes sharing the same genetic imprint. It employs a common visual language to connect different elements within the space, ultimately creating differentiation through repetition.
These "family pieces," in various positions and shapes, evoke distinct objects from the same genetic lineage, each possessing its own unique functionality. Together, these pieces are choreographed harmoniously within the environment. This project builds on previous research and practice in designing projects with a shared formal foundation.
In the Bio YOU collection, this "family" consists of five pieces: the reception desk, display stand, vanity table, trolley, and coffee table. Each piece of furniture manifests different genotypes within the "family," showcasing variations in sections and elevations. The "Y" shapes in each piece branch out into a cohesive whole, with offshoots that create unique functionalities tailored to the family at various surfaces and heights. For instance, in the display stands, the branched "Y" shapes form vertical surfaces for product display across three branches. Conversely, in the mobile trolley, these branches are designed in plan to create horizontal surfaces. The vanity table features sections of the "Y" shape that influence the spatial positioning of these family pieces. This design approach symbolizes the branding of the collection when viewed from various angles, directions, and heights.
The fabrication technique for the project follows a contour method, creating grooves within each family piece. These grooves exhibit a spectrum and gradient, with lengths that vary from top to bottom or from left to right. They begin to fade, transforming distinct contour designs into grooves that separate from a cohesive whole along softly edged boundaries. At the ends of these extensions, the grooves blend back together, thereby emphasizing the extensions of the 'Y.'
This family collection, along with the brand's visual identity, transforms disparate and unrelated points within educational spaces into cohesive areas featuring family-like objects, regardless of their spatial characteristics.
