Fitting of the pragmatism in the urban tradition of the American West, Billings Public Library draws from its local context with humility and purpose…the long low buildings that serve the original Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad, the elegant pole barns of the Eastern Montana landscape, and the sandstone bluffs that shape the Yellowstone River Valley. The library is a glass vitrine floating above a base of golden-gray sandstone. Perforated stainless steel panels are calibrated for optimized light and views. Through efficiencies born in design, the library is certified LEED Platinum.
