The project site is located near the center of Nagoya Town, where buildings are high- density.
The neighborhood has been progressing of re-building houses by the generational change. With considering the environmental change and surroundings, we primary focused two things; How to incorporate the building and natural environment – such as introducing natural light and wind while securing privacy from others. The other is how to make the expanse in the house on the small site (76 square meters).
We came up the idea that “spreading small boxes in the big box” by applying the house function.
The big box which supports and protects the family life would contain small boxes – each boxes has activity/ purpose functions as Kitchen, Den and taking the light into a space. By these small boxes , the big box is segmented softly.
Small box arranged in three dimensions produce depth in the space. In addition, by creating an opening on the wall of the boxes, family can feel the presence of each other.
On the other hand, elation generated by various stairs in big box remind us "The Prisons" of the artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi.
