Water Filtration Park
Plan Recover Magdalena 2050 Proposal
The Park used as a cliche is an answer to the social, economic, and political contrast that divides South American Countries such as Colombia. The countries are set out to have a system, it is a sytem that has different layers, but it is exploited by the classes of power. The U.G.O. is a the catostrophic change to this and has landed on the site of Barranquilla as a “NEW” Gateway, not only to Barranquilla, but to the new social economical classes of the country.
The Cliche of a Water Filtration park and recovery plan for El Rio Magdalena is used to communicate the fact that change must be drastic. The idea of cleaning the Magdalena has been around for years. It is said to be impossible to clean such a river due to the fact that is used mainly as a dump site. The cliche of recovering it is redundant, but neccassary. Therefore incorporated in the project as a Unidentifiable object.
“Change is a neccessary evil”
The UGO is designed as an architectural object that serves the function of a water filtration system to help provide water to the nearby cities. As well it is a long term process to “clean” the actual river. The shape is designed with a foriegn language to the other parts of the park as part of the idea for social and econimical change. The language needs to be foreign in order to begin to infect and grow the site and hopefully the rest of the city in a positive wave of change.
The Public Art walls are instated in the project as part of the “free” voice of all the social classes. It is the common ground if you will, where you can come and speak your voive through your art. The plazas act as communal gathering spaces where markets can occur on the weekend adnthe local CAMPESINOS can come and sell their goods. The plazas also create different experiences throughout the park as they are made up of different materials the programs on each will also be different.
