The Cervantes Library of the Arts, located in two naves of the south wing of the Alhóndiga de Granaditas Musueum, preserves and at the same times tells the trajectory followed by the International Cervantes Festival, held every year in the city of Guanajuato. The library is a physical and digital research center that contains its historical heritage in various formats: in video, newspapers and periodicals, bibliographical, photographical and sound recorded. The architectural project used as starting point the special characteristics of the city, and these are transferred into the library.
Two free pieces float inside the two naves of the museum; two blocks appear inside the space hosting the physical heritage, at once generating an interaction with the user through the spaces inside the rooms. The spaces make a reference to the alleys, underground roads, staircases and piazzas of the city, seeking to abstract part of Guanajuato to house the history of Mexico’s top cultural forum.
