DESIGN TEAM Kinga Kin, Paweł Garus, Jerzy Woźniak
Bez Rodzynek is a small cake studio in Poznań, where the entire venture fits into a single compact interior. The project was developed by the mode:lina™ architects team, with Kinga Kin as the author of the concept.
The starting point for the project was the world of sweets. The designer deconstructed a cake into its basic components, translating piped cream borders, frosting and jellies into a design language. These motifs return in the interior as the rhythm of cornices, rounded profiles and repeated details.
The whole space is immersed in a single warm shade of pink. This monochromatic gesture organises the interior and allows focus on textures and proportions. Against this backdrop, the central element is clear - a long counter with a display case for the cakes. Its base is built from transparent glass blocks with different textures, which catch daylight reflections, distort the image and introduce a subtle “jelly” effect.
The countertop and floor are finished with tiles featuring a strong, irregular pattern reminiscent of crumbled chocolate. This graphic surface balances the colour of the walls and ceiling, adding depth to the interior while remaining a practical material, resistant to intensive use.
The confectionery theme also appears in the details. Profiled, “pearl-like” cornices wrap around the walls and ceiling like the border on a cake, while the furniture legs take the form of spherical, rhythmically arranged elements. The tabletops by the windows are cut in a delicate, wavy outline - bringing their form closer to sugar decorations while remaining functional.
The layout of the interior has been shaped around the studio’s workflow. The counter sits on the axis of the entrance and immediately directs the eye towards the cake display, while the technical workshop is hidden behind a wall of glass blocks with discreetly integrated doors. As a result, guests see an ordered, representative part of the space, while the baking process remains in the background.
Light completes the character of the interior.
Above the counter hangs a neon sign with the “Bez Rodzynek” name drawn as a soft line reminiscent of frosting letters; in the evening, it emphasizes the ceiling and turns the studio into a clear point on the street. During the day, sharp side light brings the relief of the cornices and the texture of the tiles out of the shade, changing the perception of the space without altering its colour palette.
The Bez Rodzynek project clearly reflects mode:lina™’s philosophy: the interior is not just a backdrop for the brand, but one of its key tools. Here, the story of artisanal cakes becomes a spatial experience - recognizable, with carefully considered detail and balanced sweetness.
