The goal of this project was to take a 2300 sq ft, 1962 ranch house and turn it into a live/work home for 2 creative professionals and their daughter, which entailed adding 800 sq ft and reconfiguring the house. There were some project constaints: the house was fully within a wetland buffer zone; the lot was non-conforming and the house had no more legal bearing capacity. The solution was to turn the addition 90 degrees to the road and support the full weight on columns that lie outside the existing footprint. We also moved all the public spaces of the house upstairs into the new open plan space. the house has many green and sustainable features.
