Hewitt Studios have delivered a new University Technical College (UTC) at the Gloucestershire Science and Technology Park (GSTP) sponsored by South Gloucestershire & Stroud College (SGS) in partnership with the University of Gloucestershire (UoG) and a network of regional, national and international employers.
UTCs combine high quality technical and academic study for young people who are interested in following a particular career path, or pursuing a particular subject area, from the ages of 14 or 16.
Berkeley Green UTC specialises in Digital Technologies, Cyber Security and Advanced Manufacturing. It directly responds to the demand from employers for adaptable, flexible and suitably skilled young people to support the growing engineering and digital sectors in Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and Bristol.
The UTC provides young people with a unique opportunity to take part in an employer led curriculum in a challenging, fun and supportive environment. The strong links with education and business partners will support learner’s progression to both higher education and employment.
Against a backdrop of significant industrial growth and infrastructure investment in the South West, Berkeley Green UTC has a unique opportunity to positively impact young people’s career choices and ensure that they have the ability to gain the skills to secure employment in the region’s growing digital and manufacturing economy.
The delivery of a dynamic and sustainable new education facility is key to this offer - the UTC joins the neighbouring SGS Berkeley Green Skills Centre project as a national exemplar of regenerative investment.
