Stretching across the Delaware River, the Ben Franklin Bridge stands as one of the most recognizable landmarks connecting Philadelphia and Camden, a defining feature of the skyline and a vital link between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. As part of a $216.9 million rehabilitation project, this historic suspension bridge has been reimagined to shine brighter than ever while preserving its legacy for generations to come.
For more than 35 years, the bridge’s lighting system has illuminated the skyline, symbolizing connection and civic pride. The Lighting Practice (TLP), in collaboration with Urban Engineers, developed a new lighting design that modernizes this legacy through a thoughtful balance of preservation, innovation, and community impact.
The updated design enhances performance, visibility, and sustainability while honoring the bridge’s signature character. Through a combination of new and rehabilitated LED systems, TLP’s approach improves reliability and longevity, ensuring that this iconic structure continues to inspire both cities on either side of the river.
