The Bendorf Apartment complex (c.1970) received a substantial rehabilitation, converting the property from a 100 unit, 13 building, bland, boxy, flat roof appearance to a refreshed look with new sloped roofs, new composite siding exteriors, bay windows, systems and finishes. The new sloped roofs were designed to hold new solar thermal panels for the units. A cool roof installation and new photovoltaic installations, as well as Energy Star appliances, LED light fixtures, native planting, recycled and green finish materials all contribute to decreasing the existing impact on the environment. New metal trellis work provides passive shading to the buildings, as well as giving support to areas of the solar thermal installation. A new curved steel trellis at the main entry to the site provides a curb appeal sense of place and arrival, which was lacking in the existing complex. The existing community building in the center of the site was refurbished and reprogrammed with tall pitched roof community room, computer room and new offices.
