This belltower for a campus that serves infants, children, teens and adults with serious and profound developmental disabilities and special healthcare needs creates a strong visual marker. The belltower is a sculptural element to be experienced visually, by moving around it, audibly, with the sound of its bells and water features; tactilely, by touching its rough and smooth surfaces and its tactile garden; and olfactorily, through the smell of its flowers and fragrant plantings. Its bells will be used to celebrate special events. At its base, a reflecting pool with water features and distinctive landscaping provide a special location for small family gatherings.
The campus serves children with multiple medical needs, learning, emotional and developmental disabilities, and those diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. Many have complex medical problems that require 24-hour skilled nursing care and regular therapy interventions.
The belltower provides a special place to give residents of the campus a happier life, and their families a special place to meet during visits when possible.
