Jigsaw-puzzling in design and construction of industrial buildings was a task OAP were passionatley pursuing several times already.
The St. Gallen Rhine Valley in Switzerland, is an area traditionally dominated by textile industry. There, at the very beginning of our career we had the pleasure to design a textile factory building.
Starting from the north-south orientation of the site and the requirements of generous and uniform illumination for the 200 workers in the sewing room, we developed a building form derived from the classical shed roof.
The sewing room consists of a free spanning steel construction using standard products such as facade systems, standardized rolled facade sheets of raw aluminum. A key value was attached to the detailed assembly of individual elements. The solutions of the transitions and connections should suit the material, be constructively correct, elegant and in a formal sense more than satisfactory.
The client specifically welcomed the qualities of light, lightness, transparency and unity of form in addition to the specifications of rationalization, job quality, flexibility and extensibility.
