In a typical lot of 8.66m x 38m the challenge presented to us was compressing the house’s extensive program into only two floors. The client is a couple with two children (occasional visitors) and one teenager.
The house offers, through a succession of patios and raw concrete walls, a tour with different nuances. The pedestrian and vehicular access is given by a continuous esplanade that shares level with the dining and living room.
The first patio works as a buffer between the car space and living room, with a double height concrete pergola that allows filtered entry of light. Double height windows and gaps that serve as vertical connection to the playroom give the dining/living room additional spatiality.
The concrete wall that runs through the house (from the sidewalk to the main suite) is responsible for organizing the space, both horizontally and vertically, dividing the project into a 3.20m strip containing smaller service programs on one side, and a 5m strip with social spaces on the other.
The second patio articulates vertical circulation, the SPA and master bathroom, with a stone coated wall that infiltrates the adjacent spaces. The concrete pergola reinforces that continuity by entering the spa to provide overhead controlled light.
The third “L” shaped patio is the house’s main expansion, taking advantage of the connection with the living room, dining room and barbecue area.
