This remodeled residence is a fine example of how dramatically a home can change with the use of strategic interior design and architecture working hand in hand. This Tampa couple selected a classic Mediterranean exterior waterfront lot on one of Tampa's hottest locations, Bayshore Boulevard. This heavy, dark, Mediterranean home needed a fresh reset to bring in a clean, highly modern, New York penthouse style interior with a mixed rustic vibe. With high coordination of interiors and architecture we were able to design a dramatic wine room and floating staircase feature that enabled a whimsical connection between the upstairs and downstairs. Through various phases of deflection testing and design we worked together to create a clean, modern, and timeless look. The fireplaces were ripped down to studs, redesigned and given a fresh modern aesthetic with clean lines to grab attention yet not distract from the other beautiful design elements, furnishings, and artwork within each space. The original ceilings were lackluster, dark, and heavy; to bring in the clean rustic vibe we suggested the idea of designing combinations of dark stained clean wooden beams, white ceilings, and modern wooden ceiling panels. This visually attracted the eye upwards, creating higher depth in the space and subliminally creating moments of room division without the use of vertical elements. The flooring throughout was entirely replaced to lighten up the very heavy, chaotic, high contrasted wooden tile in a herringbone layout that was previously installed. We cleaned this up with a warm concrete stone mixed large format tile in an elongated stacked pattern allowing the eye to rest at moments around the rooms, rather than being distracted by the flooring. To enhance the size of the powder bathroom we extended the concrete tile into the space and contracted this with a dark cold stone for a dramatic effect, warming the space up with warm wooden millwork and a wood framed mirror to match; variations of this design aesthetic can be seen throughout the other guest bathrooms bringing continuity throughout the home. This idea of continuity was also brought into the family room entrainment wall with the concrete tile surrounding the lower and higher points of the wall, accented with a band of the wooden floor, making this wall feel less cold and providing a splash of visual interest. We also used Schluter stripes to break up the design and add layers of proportional dimension. We gutted the master suite and master bath and enhanced them with a more modern feel to make this space feel a bit more luxurious in comparison to the rest of the home, adding layers of large format glossy white marble looking tile finishings and large format stone tile for the fireplace. The exterior of the home refreshed as well, with a clean white paint selection and offering beautiful views of the bay.
