The Sukkah : b:BOX at first glance seems enigmatic + hermetic setting up a relationship with the environment into which it is introduced. The principal idea underpinning b:BOX is to create a built tension between opposing angles, the strange confronting the known, quietude besides the movement, giving a sensation of refuge in an otherwise transient circumstance of being away from one’s home. b:BOX, designed within the program constraints is a changing modular system halfway between a solid space + segmented void of angular walls employing bamboo framing + cladding. All the parts of b:BOX are a combination of natural + black bamboo. Each of the five segmented modules is connected at the base providing rigidity while allowing its tapering form. The contradictory inside-out cladding on the sinuous segments deliberately embody varying degrees of transparency from the bottom up. When the walls + roof planes are dense, the resulting composition is a deep dark place, slowly opened the vacuum disappears + horizontal slits are produced framing different views of the surrounding context while drawing the eye upwards towards indigo starry skies. The longitudinal space is broken up by torquing one segment + wrapping it under the roof line, bringing it back down closing the longer end of b:BOX while simultaneously continuing onwards to form the communal table, creating a play of perspectives for planned events + unexpected incidents. For all your holiday celebrations, we offer you a blithe screened capsule, a go-with-the-flow breathing space; the b:BOX
