BBMG, a branding and marketing firm, was moving to Dumbo from Union
Square in Manhattan. They were more than doubling their space and needed
to have desk space for 30 people. The goal was to create an environment
that would excite and inspire while also being a calm refuge for
thinking and creativity. In order to maximize opportunities of
collaboration during the working day, it was important to offer numerous
zones for social interaction and brainstorming, both informal and
formal.
An open volume, sheathed in reclaimed barnwood, nicknamed "the barn,"
receives all who step into the space. This volume, with its built-in
u-shaped bench, is the first informal gathering spot both for visitors and
employees. The workspaces stand in contrast - open and light - with
white lacquered desks as a continuous orthogonal datum running through
two light-filled zones. The naturally darker part of the space is
reserved for the kitchen, printing, storage and a production area. The
storage area was designed to eliminate any need for expensive doors
while hiding the clutter. In doing so, a volume becomes a canvas for the
BBMG team to apply their imagery and brand identity.
BBMG Studio was featured and named “Workplace of the Day - From Brewery to Eco-Friendly Office” by the Wall Street Journal.
