Concept
Largo da Batata is one of the largest open urban spaces in São Paulo. Dense in its occupation, intense in its atmosphere and fluid in its mobility, the area resembles a living organism in constant transformation. Located between the main financial hub, Faria Lima, and the most creative neighborhood, Vila Madalena – served by subway stations, CPTM and bus lines – the area function as an important public space in the city
The existing urban fabric is a rich space that should be valued. The interventions will therefore enhance local dynamics through a clear adaptation of the old to the new, the public with the private. In this way, the project poses a unique opportunity to build a more harmonious city model, in a greater combination of architecture, mobility, landscape and people.
This proposal of an urban revitalization aims to humanize and equalize the territory by bringing together housing, work, mobility, commerce, entertainment and leisure. The creation of new typologies and the reconfiguration of the public space will be the guiding thread of the transformation needed to requalify and energize the area. Through the concept of porous and permeable city blocks, the existing urban fabric will be restructured, opening new pedestrian circulations and public spaces.
Buildings with active facades will be fundamental “anchors” in the creation of a living and attractive space, where buildings with mixed-use will emerge punctually through a gradual densification of the area. The construction of a new urban landscape, combined with elements such as furniture, floor design, and landscape architecture, has the role of enriching the dynamics of the public space by providing new experiences and possibilities.
