The contemporary refurbishment and basement extension of a Grade II Listed town house situated in the heart of the Cheyne Conservation Area. Our clients had recently purchased a prime property on a beautiful London square in Chelsea. We set about designing a series of alterations to the layout that would make the property more ‘family friendly’. The intrinsic ‘problem’ with the house was that the original configuration of many smallish rooms, two per floor, over four floors, is not ideal for modern family living. The existing lower ground floor was dark and the living space fragmented over two floors. Our solution was to reorganise and extend. We obtained consent for a basement extension under the garden, thereby transforming the space and usability of the original lower ground floor of the house. We also obtained Listed Building consent for an infill glazed closet wing extension, thereby providing additional floor area and opening-up the space.
