A4 teamed up with OZ Architects of Denver to design a 21,000 sq. ft.
LEED-certified library for a site next to the Basalt Post Office. The
plan features an open, airy reading room at the heart of the building,
with tree-like columns and high views of Basalt Mountain. Support
areas, such as the children’s library and a community room, occupy
smaller, denser blocks around the periphery. At the entry is an open
gallery space that allows the community room to operate independent of
the library. The Library opened to rave reviews in January 2010 and has
been submitted for LEED Gold certification. Since opening, circulation
and patron numbers have doubled and the building is thriving as a
community hub.
