Barra Cres house is a contemporary beachside home in Coolum Beach, Qld. Australia.
Facing East, toward the ocean, the benefits and shortfalls of Queensland’s morning sun are managed by the introduction of a fully operable facade. This vertical motion screen is actioned by a simple horizontal drive hidden inside the 3 car garage and balanced perfectly by concealed counterweights. Suspended concrete floors encourage large spans of glass and offer uninterrupted vistas towards the ocean and north to Noosa Heads. Each zone, including an internal garden, enjoys interaction with the pool, entertaining areas and the natural beauty beyond.
Now that this complex 4 year project has concluded, we look back in gratitude at the positive contributions from skilled trades and consultants - and above all to our clients Brian and Margot for allowing a shift from convention.
