The project brief was to turn 6 derelict China Shipping containers within an industrial area in North East London into a new creative studio space comprised of an open plan space in the ground floor, and flexible studio space on the first floor. The design concept revolved around the juxtaposition of creating a natural creative oasis "escapade" within its existing dull, grey, industrial context. By keeping the existing footprint, we opened the containers at ground floor extending the studio space into the south facing courtyard and crating a vertical visual connection from the creative space below to a green space above. The shape of the containers takes ques from a farm/barn typology normally vernacular to wide open grassland areas far away from the city.
