The project has the clear intention to set up a system that is integrated into the surroundings in which it is located: the project area is a long narrow site that functions as a filter among urban portions that are both functionally and morphologically diverse, and that at times have in common a monumental characterization. The new building, in fact, should be located in an area between the zones of the "Parc de la Ciutadella", built specifically for the Universal Exhibition of 1885, the district de la Ribera, the border of which is on one side the railway station "Estació de França" , and on the other the neighbourhood of "La Barceloneta".The intervention will act as a seam between the fragments seeking to foster those connections that are necessary to develop an organic apposition of the various sections of cities, even according to the will of the city to operate a functional reorganization of the whole area. The library, in fact, should become the heart of a new city cultural forum, once associated to the portion of the park now occupied by the zoo and the train station. In either case, a modification is expected on their intended use.The core idea of the project is the "inhabited wall" and reflects the desire to understand the territory: until about 1860, the area was ‘crowned’ by the "Ciutadella", a large fortified structure. The new library takes up its motif and converts the place to a place of aggregation of the city’s cultural inputs. The structure of this new building will be connected with the eastern wing of the station, currently occupied by the university, and will be facing toward the adjacent park. The large entrance ramp will allow access to the different levels of the building, each of which corresponds to a different thematic area. The storage of the books will be placed into the two large towers. The wing facing the station, by folding back on to itself, creates a new urban square with access to the media library, new spaces of aggregation and an exhibition area. In this part of the building, the dominant compositional aspect is the rhythm, because of its position in front of the station. The wing that faces the park, on the other hand, will appear as naturally more lithesome both in terms of volume, as it accommodates the curve of the road, and from a material and physical point of view. The top level, instead, will feature a large terrace..
